Author: james burns
Is your computer rebooting itself again and again or shutting down spontaneously? If yes, then you need to perform some simple steps to fix the majority of PC lockup issues.

1.Check for recently installed software or hardware.

If your computer hangs after you installed a new software or hardware, try removing and reinstalling it. And check if the problem goes away.

2.Run your antivirus program.
In case of a sudden desktop hang up, try running your antivirus software support program as it could be a virus attack. Also, update your software with the latest updates and latest virus definition files. This is absolutely important and outdated antivirus is completely futile! If your computer lacks the antivirus software - or if updates are unavailable - run one of the web-based antivirus scans available with major antivirus vendors. The service is usually for free.

3.Run some good spyware removal tool.
If your computer is not infected by any nasty viruses, it is still possible that it has got some perilous adware or spyware. Download and run some good spyware removal tools.

4.Check for free hard drive space.
In case you cannot figure out any computer virus on your PC, check out free hard drive space on drive C. Ensure that there is more than 20% of free space available; low disk space can lead to random hang ups. Also, don’t be lenient while cleaning inside the computer case and never open the power supply case as it has high voltage.

5.Check the hard disk.
If you are a computer enthusiast, you must be well aware of the intricacies involved within your system. Check the logical structure of your PC’s hard disk. Outlined below are the steps you need to follow for checking the disk for errors:

Right-click on the disk C: icon in "My Computer"
Select the "Tools" tab
Check all check boxes in the "Check disk options" field
Press the "Check now" button.

It will further ask you whether you want to schedule the check next time you restart your PC - answer "Yes" and reboot your computer.

The check will be performed automatically after startup; it can take a while, so be patient. Programs will try to troubleshoot some problems automatically – however, if the hard disk is failing physically, it will need to be replaced.
In case, none of the tips help you to bring your computer back to life, you must call experts. You can try availing services from online computer support vendors. They are 24x7 available and quite reasonable too.
